Intracardiac echocardiography use in children.
نویسنده
چکیده
In their article, Bartel et al1 demonstrate the superiority of intracardiac echocardiography over conventional transesophageal echocardiography in guiding device closure of atrial septal defects (ASDs) and patent foramen ovale (PFO).1 ASDs and PFOs can be successfully closed in children under transesophageal echocardiography guidance.2,3 Because the authors have not provided the reader with the age of their patients, one is left to presume that the study was carried out in adults (from the 11F sheath used). Hence, their study may not demonstrate that intracardiac echocardiography monitoring can be safely and successfully used in children for device closure of ASDs and PFOs.

Intracardiac Thrombosis in Sickle Cell Disease
In patients with sickle cell disease, thrombotic microangiopathy is a rare complication. Also in sickle cell disease, intracardiac thrombus formation without structural heart diseases or atrial arrhythmias is a rare phenomenon. We herein describe a 22-year-old woman, who was a known case of sickle cell-βthalassemia, had a history of recent missed abortion, and was admitted with a vaso-occlusive...
متن کاملThe use of intracardiac echocardiography and other intracardiac imaging tools to guide noncoronary cardiac interventions.
The limitations of standard fluoroscopy have led to the development of improved imaging techniques to guide noncoronary cardiac interventions. Imaging tools that are used in the interventional laboratory can be categorized as invasive and noninvasive. Noninvasive cardiac imaging tools include ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. These modalities can generate high-res...

متن کاملVisualization of elusive structures using intracardiac echocardiography: Insights from electrophysiology
Electrophysiological mapping and ablation techniques are increasingly used to diagnose and treat many types of supraventricular and ventricular tachycardias. These procedures require an intimate knowledge of intracardiac anatomy and their use has led to a renewed interest in visualization of specific structures. This has required collaborative efforts from imaging as well as electrophysiology e...
